Killing With Kindness
Just like the line in Saturday Night Fever. When Tony Manero played by John Travolta says, "there are lots of ways to kill yourself without killing yourself'. There are lots of ways to kill others with out using a gun, bomb, club, knife,or anything else you may have laying around the house. You can kill with kindness. An age old way that either uses the method of carrot and the stick. Or being so involved in person or persons lives that you are just a pain in the ass. The tragic events at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown Ct. Now taking on the code name that has been anointed by the media, as "Sandy Hook". You know how they shorten everything from the name of a popular play on Broadway to the name of a city that is where the elite meet to stomp their feet. The expression of grief and condolences and news coverage from all over the world. Money sent in from other countries to buy pizza and other such foods and beverages that a local pizzeria will provide on receipt of a credit card number sent from as far away as Bangladesh. Politicians scrambling to be the first in line to extend their condolences to all who have been affected. Which started with Newtown and then the county and then the state and then the country and then Uzbekistan. Certain politician rushing from Washington D.C. in the mist of national fiscal cliff negotiations that can doom the country forever. So we are told. Hey, you gotta get that face time in or it is a tragedy that will go to waste. People doing all sorts of things to comfort the grief stricken in a manner that suggests pure altruism. Well now we have a ministry in Chicago that has brought in comfort dogs. Hey I am familiar with the Eden Alternative used in nursing homes all over the country. Where they introduce animals into the lives of the elderly. But comfort dogs for the kids of Newtown is going a bit too far. The community is affluent and that is a good thing. I believe that probably everyone of these households have a dog or two. What upstanding home in an affluent community does not. As Jimmy Durante used to say, "every bodyz gotta get inta the act". Next they should bring in the ponies to make it a "real dog and pony show". Which is what it is turning out to be. Have you no decency. Leave these people alone to mourn in there own way. Alright already, give it a break.
