Hurricane Sandy.
Sandy
Coming from an eastern way another from the west,
It’s power comes from nature we dare not to respect,
Across the sea it came then turned upon the land,
It brought the wind and water churning up the sand,
It came upon the cities fury not able to withstand,
Edifice both tall and small fell to God and natures hand,
It washed away the beaches making new designs,
Obscuring a cartographer’s well designed drawn lines,
Rising up the water it mixed it up around,
Bringing ashore the vessels and laying them aground,
Twixt and turned they did lay where they not ought to be,
Up atop the roof tops rusting rudders for all to see,
Sitting in the parking lots as if waiting for a ride,
Boats balancing on autos never to float another tide,
The islands off the eastern shore built my mans machines,
Are there for just a little while to fill mans made up dreams,
Then nature comes a calling and giving a firm say,
On proven and the steady ground is where you need to stay.
The people looked around and seeing open sky,
Knew that night will come and they have no place to lie,
The trees that they had come to know for oh so very long,
Lay across the power lines halting their sweet song,
The babies cried for warmth and just a bit of milk,
Then came the politicians dressed in all their silk,
Kissing all the children and holding grandma too,
Saying as they do, “ I am so very sorry this happened all to you”,
Fluffing all their feathers and looking with concern,
Getting in their photo ops and then their backs they turn.
